The party in Paphos
It was party time in Paphos as Match Poker continued to blaze a trail and Ireland won the first European Nations Cup of Match Poker.
Fourteen teams from across the continent pitched their best Match Poker players into action over three days at the Annabelle Hotel where the IFP made its own piece of history.
The tournament was the IFP’s first staged without physical playing cards. Instead the hands were dealt to every player using specially provided smart phones.
Ireland, captained by Padraig Parkinson, took the trophy ahead of Russia and Spain, with the UK, Estonia and Cyprus also qualifying for the Grand Final.
UK star Daiva Barauskaite loved Paphos and the competition and said so on her Hendon Mob blog:
“Massive congratulations to the Irish team, who ended up winning European Nations Cup 2013 & picking up a gorgeous trophy, and my sincere consolations to the Lithuanian team who didn’t make it.
Well done to the International Federation of Poker and Cyprus for putting on such a great & very successful event & I look forward to seeing you all in the finals next (time).”
